On the number of infinite sequences with trivial initial segment complexity

چکیده
The sequences which have trivial prefix-free initial segment complexity are known as K -trivial sets, and form a cumulative hierarchy of length ω. We show that the problem of finding the number of K -trivial sets in the various levels of the hierarchy is ∆3. This answers a question of Downey/Miller/Yu (see Downey (2010) [7, Section 10.1.4]) which also appears in Nies (2009) [17, Problem 5.2.16]. We also show the same for the hierarchy of the low for K sequences, which are the ones that (when used as oracles) do not give a shorter initial segment complexity compared to the computable oracles. In both cases the classification ∆3 is sharp. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Kolmogorov complexity of initial segments of sequences and arithmetical definability
The structure of the K-degrees provides a way to classify sets of natural numbers or infinite binary sequences with respect to the level of randomness of their initial segments. In the K-degrees of infinite binary sequences, X is below Y if the prefix-free Kolmogorov complexity of the first n bits of X is less than the complexity of the first n bits of Y , for each n. Identifying infinite binar...
متن کاملResolute Sequences in Initial Segment Complexity
We study infinite sequences whose initial segment complexity is invariant under effective insertions of blocks of zeros in-between their digits. Surprisingly, such resolute sequences may have nontrivial initial segment complexity. In fact, we show that they occur in many well known classes from computability theory, e.g. in every jump class and every high degree. Moreover there are degrees whic...
متن کاملOn Time-Bounded Incompressibility of Compressible Strings and Sequences
For every total recursive time bound t, a constant fraction of all compressible (low Kolmogorov complexity) strings is t-bounded incompressible (high time-bounded Kolmogorov complexity); there are uncountably many infinite sequences of which every initial segment of length n is compressible to log n yet t-bounded incompressible below 1 4n − log n; and there are a countably infinite number of re...
متن کاملOn trivial ends of Cayley graph of groups
In this paper, first we introduce the end of locally finite graphs as an equivalence class of infinite paths in the graph. Then we mention the ends of finitely generated groups using the Cayley graph. It was proved that the number of ends of groups are not depended on the Cayley graph and that the number of ends in the groups is equal to zero, one, two, or infinity. For ...
متن کاملUniversal computably enumerable sets and initial segment prefix-free complexity
We show that there are Turing complete computably enumerable sets of arbitrarily low non-trivial initial segment prefix-free complexity. In particular, given any computably enumerable set A with non-trivial prefixfree initial segment complexity, there exists a Turing complete computably enumerable set B with complexity strictly less than the complexity of A. On the other hand it is known that s...
